Cumberlandite is the state rock of Rhode Island, it’s magnetic, and it’s often confused with a meteorite. It's found in only one spot on earth- a lil four-acre plot of land in Cumberland, behind the superbly historic Ballou Cemetery.
Park across the street on Elder Ballou Meeting House Road, peek in the creepy crypts, and explore the beautiful gravestones. Many of the stones are made from the Cumberlandite outcrop nearby. Facing the woods, you'll see a trail extending behind the cemetery and up the hill.
Past a small clearing you'll find cumberlandite in a few rocky outcrops. Don’t forget to check out Lincoln Woods while you’re in the area, where you'll find some really great monoliths to climb on.
